Zulma Marquez Zak was born in Manhattan in 1964 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 14, she was hired by the local community center to encourage local children and help them become interested and involved in sports, which she successfully accomplished for five years.
Zulma started her insurance career in 1984 at AIG in New York and moved to California 1995 to work for an insurance brokerage firm.
In 1997, Zulma co-founded ECM Insurance Service in San Francisco and eventually sold her share of the business in 2004.
Zulma is married to Christopher Zak and, in lieu of gifts, they asked their friends and families to contribute to the Chi Chi Rodriquez Children Foundation. The Zaks continue to contribute to charities, with children’s charities, breast cancer research, and women’s advancement being among their favorites. Zulma is currently managing a new for-profit venture and a private foundation whose ideal is to give back to the community.
